This was one of a series of drawings I made at the same time as the red papier-mache sculptures. It is red gel pen on tracing paper with some fibrous paper underneath.
Aha, sea creature links as well. And tracing paper. Starting to think we were separated at birth. Are you blonde with very pale skin? That would clinch it! And you love red too, that nice rich red.
"Mandy Prowse studied painting and printmaking at Maidstone College of Art. She explores natural and human forms and the interconnectedness of all things. Themes in her work relate to birth, mortality and metamorphosis. Her altered books are minimalistic and organic combining a modern aesthetic with an almost Victorian touch. If you told me these books were 100 years old I wouldn’t think twice about it.”
