Hi Mandy, I'm really enjoying your blog, and I'm glad I came across it. I'd love to see some more snippits from your fabric sketchbook as I think I need to find a way to document my ideas in a similar way
Currently I just paint in my sketchbook and there isn't much correlation between my textile art and the paintings... so maybe not as worthwhile.
Hi Claire the sketch book came about from a college course which followed a programme of making studies before the final pieces - which is not how I usually work. At times I would make the final piece then work backwards to make the studies ! And whatever you do in the sketchbook - it is always worthwhile - one feeds the other even when there is no obvious link. I will be in touch to talk more about this. Thanks for your comments !
"Mandy Prowse studied painting and printmaking at Maidstone College of Art. She explores natural and human forms and the interconnectedness of all things. Themes in her work relate to birth, mortality and metamorphosis. Her altered books are minimalistic and organic combining a modern aesthetic with an almost Victorian touch. If you told me these books were 100 years old I wouldn’t think twice about it.”
