Gouache, watercolour and indian ink on canvas board. 1991 14x10inches.
I never really came to terms with losing my Grandmother, we were very close and when she died I found it hard to continue painting, this was one of my last paintings from that time.
I can relate to this. The reasons we paint/create are so tied up with our emotions, they're difficult to separate. To work in a different medium, which doesn't have the same associations feels very refreshing.
"Mandy Prowse studied painting and printmaking at Maidstone College of Art. She explores natural and human forms and the interconnectedness of all things. Themes in her work relate to birth, mortality and metamorphosis. Her altered books are minimalistic and organic combining a modern aesthetic with an almost Victorian touch. If you told me these books were 100 years old I wouldn’t think twice about it.”

Exactly ! I feel so much lighter in the way I work now. I think I will paint again one day. All this blogging is great for working this stuff out.
