Ben Shahn was born in Lithuania and moved to New York, he was a photographer and painter, involved in the social realist movement. Text and lettering was an integral part of his work. My mother liked his work a lot and I remember these books from my childhood. The illustrated poem by Wendell Berry for President Kennedy and also a book called Love and Joy about Letters.
