I didn't stop for coffee today, this was from my last visit to Fika in Brick Lane in the Wintertime. I love Swedish coffee and the saffron cake was delicious. Lilian Lenton 1891-1972 (aka Ida Inkley), home office surveillance photograph, taken while she was in Holloway prison in 1912 at the age of 21. Lilian fought for the right for women to vote. Lilian aimed to set fire to 2 empty buildings a week, she was suspected of setting fire to the tea house in Kew Gardens. Lilian later served as an orderly in the first world war and was awarded the French Red Cross medal.
Four exhibitions in May, curated by the artists Emma Woffenden and Matt Durran. Recollect reflects upon the historical context of collection and displaying objects. This year, focusing on curiosity cabinets each venue becomes a wonder room, each cabinet a memory theatre and each object is a loaded, powerful, personal trophy.
