There is a HUGE creative block in the feltbug studio, I am biding my time and know it will pass but it has been going on for a few months now. I have been putting old work up on the walls to try and jog that part of my brain that is dormant. I have been LOOKING; visiting galleries, borrowing library books, taking photographs of the world around me, browsing flickr and LISTENING; to many wonderful musicians, BLOGGING and reading so many blogs full of wonder and delight so things are not so still. Maybe I am too busy with all these voices and influences. Life holds little time for standing still and being silent.

On Monday night things stood still for a little while at a wonderful gig I went to and the walls came tumbling down:)

Zoe Rubens makes beautiful sculptures, they have a quality of drawing about them which I love even though they are 3 dimensional. Zoe has an exhibition at the Bar du Marche restaurant, 19 Berwick Street, Soho, London W1 until the end of March. Domestic Appliance

After the quiet contemplation in the Geffrye museum with all those rooms steeped in history, I came across this exhibition of wild and crazy kinetic sculptures made from domestic objects at the new Flowers East gallery at 82 Kingsland Road, London E2. Well worth a visit - be prepared to be shocked and suprised!!

I had an intensive night finishing off work that I had to take to Milton Keynes today for a group show that I have had work selected for. The exhibition is called Stitch and I am thrilled that Shelly Wyn-De-Bank is also showing work there. The show is on from the 6 April until 5 May. The venue is Artworks-MK. It is in a very beautiful setting on the outskirts of the city. I will post some more information about the show soon.

Reconditioned (armchair armature)

I felt as though I was upholstering this sculpture when I was making it, the fabric is reminiscent of my Grandmother's armchair. Its the way that things we have grown up with get beneath the skin and resonate throughout life - probably why I love any kind of flea market.

And here is the new work in progress - I have been working all day in the studio and carried on this evening and I am looking forward to waking up to this new piece of work - it is a long time since I felt that mixture of enjoyment and unfamiliarity with an art work that I have made - to have that feeling of anticipation when you return to the studio to see a new creation. So much has gone into this piece - I have been absorbing all the amazing art and craft I have been looking at on blogs and on flickr. So many encouraging comments from friends and fellow artists over the last couple of months. Thankyou ALL !

First wire sculpture

I made my first wire sculpture in 2005, it was a skeleton of wire, covered with red tissue paper and pva glue. It was the first time I had made something 3D. As time passed I became more proficient at making these pieces - using better quality paper, this one started to deteriorate, the paper got torn and it ended up in a cupboard, waiting for something to happen. Today I woke up and felt a very strong need to make something with meaning and importance. Having spent the last 2 months re-assessing my work and posting pictures of the past, still making things but nothing with any real substance, I wanted to move forward. At the weekend I found some lovely fabrics at a local market and the car boot. I knew I wanted to utilise these in some way - but what ? I thought about making a structure out of wire that I could give body to with the fabrics and then it occured to me that I had this piece in the cupboard and so the destruction began.

Felt Balloon

This is a piece I made as part of my final course work last year. I have used thick layers of wool fibre, with deflated balloons placed between the layers, which act as a resist. Once the piece was felted I removed the balloons and stuffed the pockets with scraps of felt.
