Helen Almeida

Seduzir 2002

Helen Almeida Inside Me at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge
This is the first UK show for Portuguese artist Helen Almeida and presents a selection of works made over the last 40 years, including photographs, performance and drawing until 15 November.

Later that day...

An antiques dealer popped in to work and showed me these rather nice French mirrors from the boot of his car, how fortuitous that I was wearing my eiffel tower skirt, thrifted from the car boot fair :)

Camera Obscura

Sitting in the office at work with the back door open on another beautiful Autumn day, I saw this miracle of light. I do love the Camera Obscura - there is something magical about seeing the world reproduced by a lens and light.

Day of the Dead

The Museum of Everything

Friday Disasters by George Widener

The Museum of Everything is a new galley space in Primrose Hill dedicated to the creativity of outsider artists. Collector and museum founder James Brett describes it as a 'public museum showing extraordinary works of privacy'. The museum is housed temporarily in an old dairy building until 23rd December.

Enquire within upon everything

" Whether you wish to model a flower in wax; to study the rules of etiquette; to serve a relish for breakfast or supper; to plan a dinner for a large party or a small one; to cure a headache; to make a will; to get married; to bury a relative; whatever you may wish to do, make or to enjoy, provided your desire has relation to the necessities of domestic life, I hope you will not fail to 'ENQUIRE WITHIN'." Published in 1884, London.
Inside the first page are 2 hand-written recipes from 1884, one for marmalade and the other for tea cakes.

Books

This is a collection of books I have acumulated over the last few months from car boot fairs and charity shops. I plan to use some of them in my work, the ones that are in bad repair. You can see a list of titles and dates here.

The Age of The Marvellous

On my way home from seeing all these inspiring shows I spotted this from the bus. Work being installed for an exciting sounding show inspired by Wunderkammer or The Cabinet of Curiosity, The Age of The Marvellous at One Marylebone, London Nw1 which continues until 22 October. All these exhibits are very close to the Frieze Art Fair in Regents Park which I will not be visiting as the ticket price of £25.00 (HOW MUCH!! I hear you cry) is rather a lot to ask when there is so much interesting art to see in the city for free.

ATLAS gallery

I set off to see the second polaroid show in London this month at Atlas Gallery, 49 Dorset Street, London W1, on the corner of Chiltern Street where I also discovered the Andy Warhol show and the Charles Le Dray installation. I love that even after 47 years of London life I am still discovering new streets and places to visit.

When Andy Warhol Had A Boss

A wonderful exhibition of Andy Warhol's commercial work produced for clients at the delightful A&D Gallery, 51 Chiltern Street, London W1. The exhibition continues until 31 October.

MENS SUITS

Mens Suits by Charles LeDray - last few days - closes Sunday 18 October
Charles LeDray is one of the best kept secrets in contemporary art. Based in a small studio in New York, he labours quietly away for years on each new project. His project for Artangel is based on clothing, large amounts of men’s clothing – suits, shirts, ties, gloves – all different, all hand-made and all intimately detailed. The Fire Station, 1 Chiltern Street, London W1.

Exquisite Bodies

EXQUISITE BODIES or the curious and grotesque story of the anatomical model at the Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London, NW1 until 18 October.

Tea Cosy

Having had a blissful week off work, seen some art, done some thrifting, been out dancing, tidied up my chaotic workspace (hooray!) my creative mojo returned and I made this tea cosy for a friend who loves a nice cuppa tea. I got the pattern for the basic cosy from Rusty Bobbin. I like the Union Jack motif but wanted to do something a bit different.
